The Wonder of Wandsworth - Guided Walk

Has any UK town centre changed so much as Wandsworth? An extraordinary history is revealed on Geoff's informative and entertaining walk!

Where the Wandle meets the Thames, Wandsworth features gargantuan tower blocks jostling uneasily alongside rusting remains of industrial heritage. The walk highlights the area's role in Britain's history – from providing sanctuary to Huguenots over 300 years ago, to housing brewing sites, industrial manufacturing for Trafalgar and Waterloo, and Spitfire production during WWII.

The walk also explores cultural significance including the pub where the fledgling Sex Pistols prepared to unleash punk rock, and the film studio where 'Video Killed the Radio Star' kicked off the era of MTV.

Geoff Simmons, a 30-year resident, runs Summerstown182, a community history initiative featuring guided walks, talks, and heritage plaques throughout the Wandle Valley.
